mamma chia

While perusing the aisles of Whole Foods during the holidays I came across a most interesting new drink.  It’s called Mamma Chiaa fun, high energy drink made with chia seeds! A few months back I wrote about my love for chia seeds and their amazing ability to give us energy, vitality and strength.  Now, Mamma Chia has taken the benefits of chia and has added them to fruit juice to create a drink that’s fun for your mouth and great for your body.  Mamma Chia uses all organic ingredients including real fruit juice, lemon and agave. She blends them all together and in return you get a delicious concoction of taste and nutrition.  Each bottle of Mamma Chia supplies 2000 mg of Omega-3s, 10 g of fiber and 4 g of protein. It is also loaded with antioxidants, calcium and it’s gluten-free.  Although there is a bit of fruit juice and agave the sugars and calories are low9 g of sugar and 110 calories/per 10 oz bottle.  I suspect most people would only drink a portion of the bottle at a time since it is quite large.

As I sampled the tantalizing new drink I learned the story behind its birth from its owner and inventor, Janie.  Janie spent many years feeling low energy until she was introduced to chia seeds by her fitness trainer.  She claims these tiny super food seeds changed her life!  Janie started to incorporate them into everything.  She later invented Mamma Chia in her kitchen , drank it daily and shared it with her family and friends.  Now with a full fledged manufacturer and distributor in tow she has recently been approved to be in all the Whole Foods stores in Southern California.  Yeah Janie! I just love to see a mom with a great entrepeneurial story!

While I stood there talking with Janie I watched lots of kids and adults sampling Mamma Chia  – and they liked it!  It tastes a bit like a jello shot. More on that in a moment.

Mamma Chia is available in Cranberry Lemonade (my favorite), Blackberry Hibiscus, Raspberry Passion and Cherry Lime.  So for a new year filled with energy and vitality give Mamma Chia a try.

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

That sounds delicious. I wonder if the Whole Foods in New York carries it. Do you know?

I think it is currently just in the Southern California area. I know they are working on trying to get it to other locations across the country. If you go to their website you can download a spec sheet that you can take to your local Whole Foods and ask if they would bring in the product. Janie, the owner, is so nice and I’m sure she would be so appreciative and help out in anyway she could.
    Good luck!
